Hello again Lets start the year as we mean to go on! Last year I did a few blogs but life got in the way. New year new plans and I have to say I'm very excited.
I was delighted to sponsor a race again at Kelso Racecourse this season for two reasons. Firstly it allows mine to give a little back to the course who allow me to have my stand there, I firmly believe you reap what you sow in life. But secondly I got to hand over the bag of Carrots from the lovely Colin McGrath, for those of you not familiar with this tradition its a Kelso thing. Every winning horse gets a bag of carrots from Colin and I think its wonderful. This year I plan to spend more time racing, and more smaller BE Events, Life has to be a balance last year I spent so much time away I felt I had neglected Scottish Eventing. So more in the north adding Wetherby, Ripon, Redcar, Catterick,Stratford to our regular spots of Kelso and Cartmel. I Will also be at Middleham Open Day for Racing welfare this year. The new "Gin it to Win it" competition in Scottish Eventing has drawn me back to Forgandenny, Floors, Glamis, Hopeton and possibly Dalkeith. It is lovely to do the big events but equally its is such fun to be among old friends and to be there to cheer them on! On Monday Colin bought a framed collage of photographs from that day to show me, it had been the first day where he had connections to someone on that podium in all seven races. Those connections go way beyond the racing world but it is a common denominator. I first met Colin when he signed my employment contract in 1987, he then was Operations Director of Stakis Hotels I was a Personnel Manager and spent life on my feet managing a 400 bed Hotel. Not my first choice of job, I was offered a job by Tommy Cuthbert at Carlisle but my parents soon put stop to my dream of working in racing. what followed was Hotels industry, retail, then finally jewellery opening my first shop in 2006. I think maybe I now having the last laugh as my life is defiantly spent being among the racing family. I love it! see you at Catterick and Wetherby this weekend |
